Leek Moth Trap M52

Leek Moth Trap M52

A cunning way to let you know when leek moths are about, and keep leek moth numbers down.

Nasty gingery brown streaking in the leeks, often followed by rotting, damage to the leaves and sometimes a tiny caterpillar-like pest visible in the damaged areas. Sounds like classic leek moth damage.  The adult pests fly from mid-April to late May, and from early June to late August. The female moth lays an egg near the base of the leek, this egg hatches into a maggot like critter that tunnels into the leek...wrecking it! The traps mimic the scent of female moths, so attract the male moths and lure them to their death. Helps to keep breeding down (so fewer maggot-like larvae to do damage) and alerts you to the presence of the moths. Fleece (see below) is a great way to prevent leek moth attack but if you don't want too much fleece about, try these traps!
